Richard Wherlock welcomes the season 2018/2019

Ladies and Gentlemen members of the Ballet Gilde

The colourful brochure is printed, press is informed and we hope that you dear members are curious about the new season which is starting soon.

The first ballet, a world premiere, will take place in September on the “Kleine Bühne“ will be: DON’T TELL THE KIDS . A kind of dance-theatre created for and with six dancers of the company

In Octobre PEER GYNT , last season’s success which captured our audience, will follow on the „Grosse Bühne“.

November, usually a cold and rainy month; a good reason to forget the grey and escape to Sevilla with the passionate CARMEN ,

During Christmas time we will be happy to great our good and old friend TEWJE back again and enjoy hs specific humour and charm.

We will go back to the Schauspielhaus to enjoy two ballets from two choreographers THOMAS NOONE / JIŘÍ POKORNÝ who will be in Basel for the very first time. We are very happy to greet them and are curious about their choreographic language.

May will grant us with a very special Premiere. Based on my landsman William Shakespeare I will show the COMEDY OF ERROR(Z) as a Ballet. I am very happy to work together with two inspiring Artists: Antony Genn and Catherine Brickhill. Antony composes especially for that work. He is a well known artist in the music scene and worked together with Pop stars like Robin Williams and Brian Eno and wrote some music for Movies and for the TV. Catherine, will create the costumes. She worked with Alexander McQueen and for high fashion labels like Givenchy. I am convinced we will get a new sound coupled with a new look.

I am very happy about the fact that we will be on the road, travelling to Ludwigshafen in December, to Saint-Louis in February, to Lyon and Mulhouse in March, to Budapest in April, and finally to Biarritz and Bilbao in May.

And – not to forget – we will start the season with the three division project KING ARTHUR, in which the Ballet is playing a prominent role.

I am looking forward to the new intense ballet season.

It is really nice to know that you will be part of it and support us with your very positive energy

Let’s enjoy a new Ballet season which we shall appreciate with our hart, wide open eyes and ears.

From the bottom of my heart

Richard Wherlock
